Repair Welding

The rising cost of new rail replacement programs has increased the demand for repair welding whereby the life and usability of existing rail is extended to its' optimal duration.  The goal of a repair welding program is to remove mechanical joints in track, to eliminate rail surface and internal (ultrasonic) defects, engine burns, and worn rail, and to replace insulated joints.

Repair welding has become a much more cost-effective method with the addition of Holland's two newest technologies for in-track flash-butt welding: the Puller-Lite and the Low Consumption Weld.  These innovative technologies allow Holland® to provide the best repair welding serviceRepair Welding because:
  1. The Puller-Lite enables plug rail to be installed with the ability to make a closure weld.  Puller-Lite is supported by the boom of the Holland® welding unit and operated by the Holland® crew.  Historically, the closure weld would be made either with a thermite weld or a standard puller requiring additional labor and equipment for handling.
  2. The Low Consumption Weld consumes less rail in the flash-butt welding process and reduces the number of anchors that need to be removed and reapplied thereby increasing productivity and minimizing manpower requirements.
These new advantages have advanced electric flash-butt welding as the preferred technology for repair welding programs and as a result, have promoted repair welding as one of the fastest growing areas of Holland's mobile welding business.
