Dual Car CWR Unloader Unit Details

The Dual Car Unloader Unit is built on a purchased new or pre-owned car frame. Each car is thoroughly inspected to assure compliance with current standards and regulations before construction begins.

The Unloading System

The Holland Dual Car CWR Unloader Unit is a rail unloading system designed to place rail where it's needed.  The Unloading System consists of two cars, a Ramp Car and a Power Threader. The Ramp Car guides the rail string as it is drawn from rail train rack. The Power Threader CarDual Car Unloader 2 contains all the power systems for the unit and operators cab. The threader system supports and guides the rail the rest of the way to its desired resting place beside the track.

The Ramp Car:

The Rail Handling Equipment

Unloading rail requires care and precision.  Adjustable ramps and threader boxes give the operator a high degree of control over how and where the ribbon is placed. Precision handling pays in two ways. One is in greater safety for personnel involved in the unloading operation. The second is a reduction in product damage due to excessive loads and stresses placed on the string during its' descent from the rack.

Adjustable Ramps

At the front end of the car are four independently adjustable hydraulically operated ramp frames with full movable threader boxes. Each ramp can be raised or lowered independently by the operator.

Folding Walkways

Holland understands that personnel must be able to move safely and efficiently on the unit, especially during threading operations. The answer is a set of fold down walkways on either side of the Ramp Car. These allow safe passage around the adjustable ramp framework.

Ramp Mounted Adjustable Threader Boxes

The adjustable threader boxes are mounted in the ramps. The boxes can be moved horizontally by the operator using a worm gear and hydraulic motor system. Each box is equipped with a clamp cylinder and roller to control and guide the ribbons.

The Power Threader Car:

Telescoping Threader Boxes

The telescoping threader boxes are mounted under the deck of the car. Each box is hydraulically operated and can be extended or retracted.  Both boxes are equipped with clamp cylinders and a roller to guide the ribbon into position.

Hydraulic Winches

The two hydraulically powered winches are rigidly mounted to the car body below the deck level but within the envelope of the car.

The Power Platform

The power platform is the heart of the unit.  The platform contains the operators station, power skid engine, pumps valves and accumulators and plumbing, hydraulic reservoir, fuel tank and equipment storage box.

Operators Station (Cab)Rail Unloader

The operators station contains:

  • Power skid engine controls and gauges
  • Operators console containing the controls for the hydraulic components and gauges for monitoring system performance
  • Controls for lights and beacons
  • Windows are equipped with a safety screening mesh

Power skid Engine

Holland equips its unloader unit with a reliable Cummins diesel engine to power the hydraulic system pumps.

Pumps, Valves, Accumulator and Plumbing

Since many different movements can happen at the same time, it is important to have enough pressure to drive the system. Holland's unloader maintains constant pressure with three pumps.  One pump drives the adjustable front end ramps, adjustable boxes and clamp cylinders. The other two pumps drive the winches (one for each). By dividing the load this way, pressure can be maintained so equipment operates at maximum efficiency. Pumps, valves, and accumulators are easy to reach and maintain.

Hydraulic Reservoir

The 200 gallon (757Liter) hydraulic reservoir provides an adequate supply of fluid and volume for cooling during heavy use.

Fuel Tank

A 200 gallon (757Liter) fuel tank allows for extended operation without frequent refueling.  A strainer is also provided to prevent fuel line clogging.

Storage Box

Holland provides customers with standard Knaack JobMaster (#4830) locking storage boxes.  They provide over 25 cubic feet of space.
